Meet The… VP Of Marketing Strategy

Meet The… VP Of Marketing Strategy
Andre Torsvik, VP Marketing Strategy Vizrt Group
Tell us about a typical day in your role

Working on a marketing strategy for global brands with diverse portfolios requires a lot of meetings, conversations and interactions with people from different time zones. The innovative products and wonderful teams that make up NewTek, NDI and Vizrt never mean a dull day and the wealth of working with people from all walks of life makes me so happy.

Every day I try to combine support and leadership of the product marketing team. We work to coordinate messaging and campaigns, stay up to date with market and industry developments, and (hopefully!) provide helpful analytics and insights. Having a dedicated team that cares about what we do and how we do it is one of the biggest joys of my role.

How did you get into the media industry?

In 2004 I started working for TV 2 Norway as a conveyor. A few weeks after the radio went live, he switched to news mode to cover the tsunami that hit him; it was a steep learning curve.

I quickly realized how working live gives a unique sense of accomplishment and immediacy that nothing else could replicate. The stories told about this tragedy have captured the public's attention and helped show solidarity with the many victims.

I spent seven years at TV2 Norway working in various technical positions and learning the nuances of the TV industry. Then I worked for Mosart, which Wizrt acquired in 2013, and the rest is history.

What training did you receive before entering the industry?

When I first entered the professional world of media and television during my studies, I was fortunate to gain hands-on experience during my studies. I was working on my bachelor's degree in media and television production at the University of Westminster. There I learned the whole process of working with the production and operational aspects of studios and editing facilities. I then completed an MBA in Marketing which came in very handy when I moved to Sales Media Technology.

Why do you like working in the industry?

This is a growing industry from the very beginning. innovation is everywhere, and it is change that interests me. I have been working in the media for more than 15 years and do not see myself in this area if there is nothing new.

As the Vizrt Group's activities range from infrastructure innovation to software implementation to widespread broadcast support, I can never be sure what the day will bring and I think it's great. There is also the exciting aspect of working in such a tight-knit industry, so global in nature, where you work (and continue to meet) incredibly talented people from all over the world. Add these two and you have a recipe for great job satisfaction.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to try out for a role like yours?

Understanding the market and customer base is very important, and the best way to understand it is to work in it. Nothing replaces the hands-on production experience when you feel the pressure and immediately understand the horror of a live premiere going black. Live the Pain These important learning experiences never leave you, and they will all come in handy later when you're dealing with customers as a supplier. I can help you

Marketing understanding, execution, and planning are specific skills that can be learned but require practice. For example, while anyone can copy and paste it on social media, most people shouldn't. When done right, your words will have the impact you want and make the impression you want. Achieving this requires a willingness to research, plan, evaluate, publish, and create your message, among many other time-consuming activities. All this happens before the execution begins.

Most importantly, every new marketing skill must be constantly learned and improved to keep up with this dynamic, ever-changing industry.
