Peloton Seeks CMO As Marketing Head Exits

Peloton Interactive Inc. Dara Treseder, head of global marketing, communications and membership as chief marketing officer, announced that she is leaving the fitness technology company to join a diverse leadership team.

Tresseder confirmed Monday that Oct. 4 will be his last day at the subscription-based company, which he joined in 2020. He is expected to join Autodesk , a software design and maker, on October 14 as chief marketing officer. .

Peloton is now looking for its first chief marketing officer since the company went public in 2019, a Peloton spokeswoman said after Treseider's resignation, which was first reported by the New York Times. A spokeswoman said Peloton briefly appointed its chief marketing officer in 2016, but months later decided to move its marketing job under a chief commercial officer.

The research comes as CEO Barry McCarthy, who took over in February, plans to turn Peloton around in August after a quarterly loss of $1.2 billion and a 30% drop in revenue.

Home fitness companies, which experienced rapid growth in 2020 after gyms closed during the pandemic, have struggled to keep up with demand for connected exercise equipment and interactive classes as gyms reopen and consumer budgets tighten.

In August, McCarthy told investors that while the health of the Peloton brand is "excellent," he sees plenty of opportunities for the company to attract more consumers to its offering, especially as it improves. Stationary bikes like treadmills, rowing machines and digital apps.

"Now is our opportunity to invest in awareness," he said. "It's important to realize that the path to success involves more swings at home plate."

Co-founder and CEO John Foley left the company earlier this month, along with chief legal officer Hisao Koshi and chief commercial officer Kevin Cornells. Peloton does not intend to fill the role of chief commercial officer, a move that, along with a search for a chief marketing officer, signaled Mr. McCarthy's vision to rewrite Peloton's role in the executive group.

A spokesman for the organization said Peloton had seen its member base grow from about 2.6 million to more than 6.9 million during the Treasurer's term.

"We appreciate Dara and thank her for everything she has done," the company said in a statement. "We wish him well."

In his new role, Trezeder will oversee Autodesk's global marketing, branding and communications, according to a company press release.

Treseder, who led marketing for the 3D printing company before Peloton, said he was particularly interested in the company's multinational reach and impact on those designing sustainability solutions.

“There aren't a lot of black leaders in tech, so I'm really excited to get started,” she said.
